Guide to Effective Stalking

by Daniel Beadle - Thursday, September 6, 2007

INTRODUCTION:
"...Most instances of social behavior are governed by incontrovertible rules. Many people intuitively pick up on these rules, after a time, and live well within them. Those who don’t are doomed to repeated frustration. Rules exist whether we acknowledge them or not..."

MISDIRECTION:
"...A key aspect to stalking your prey is plausible deniability. Unlike hunters, who stalk deer or other species, those who stalk humans have a distinct advantage in that they are naturally camouflaged in most urban settings.

"A stalker who runs the risk of being discovered by their prey will find their defense in the plausibly deniable precept. This notion operates by the stalker having a reasonable visual explanation as to why he is in the location he is in. For example, if a stalker is tracking his prey in a parking garage, and the prey makes an abrupt direction reversal that puts the stalker in its line of sight, the stalker must have a reasonable path to follow that belies any suspicion. This path would be to continue onward past the prey, possibly removing a set of keys from his pocket..."

PURSUIT AND OBSERVATION:
"...The best stalkers are those who are able to predict the path of their prey, and in this undertaking, are able to lead their prey rather than follow it. This action serves to throw off suspicion of pursuit, though one must be wary of inadvertently catching their attention.

"Pursuit is perhaps the most well known aspect to human stalking, unfortunately, though it is certainly the most enjoyable. It is essential to most of the other aspects of stalking, and plays a critical role in preliminary information gathering.

"Whenever stalking your target, always be wary of reflective surfaces. Any reflective surface can serve to blow a stalker’s cover. For this reason, never look directly at your prey. Peripheral vision is key to observation without suspicion or premature discovery..."

INFORMATION GATHERING:
"...Given that all humans are inherently narcissistic, many will advertise the seemingly mundane details of their lives in a public forum, the foremost of these being the Internet. With a few trace details, a determined stalker can find out the most intimate details of a person’s identity, personality, and routine.

"The Internet, social networking sites in particular, has become the stalker’s best friend..."

INTERPRETING INFORMATION:
"...The art of interpreting the aforementioned information requires a thorough understanding of humans in general. There are no details of a person’s life that are trivial to the stalker; every small trait contributes to the whole. For example, recognizing someone as a smoker speaks volumes about that person’s susceptibility to peer pressure, social norms and conventions, their attitude toward authority, their ability to cope with stress, the extent to which they have an addictive personality type, and so on..."
